McGee stays in Texas

Former Texas A&M quarterback Stephen McGee will trade in his maroon and white for blue and silver come fall.

After being courted by several NFL organizations, McGee got the call from the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the NFL Draft on Sunday.

With the 101st overall pick, first in the fourth round, the Cowboys drafted the former Burnet High School star and Aggie fan favorite.

Former running back Mike Goodson was drafted in the fourth round by the South Carolina Panthers with the 111th overall pick.

Congratulations to both players. Its unfortunate that Stephen never got to realize his potential while at A&M. He was a passing QB when he got here and Dennis Franchione ruined that potential.

I hope Goodson has a succesful stint in the NFL as well. The kids has shear talent and a big name in the NFL could do wonders for the A&M football program.

Notes

- Johnson improved in the 2nd quarter and connected with Jeff Fuller on several big plays

- the defense finished the first half with 5 sacks and 4 interceptions, a huge difference from last year’s team

- the offensive line needs to start protecting the quarterback

- Defense looks good, especially pass rush

- Offensive line struggling in pass protection

- Johnson off to bad start, sacked 4 times

Pre-Game Notes

It’s a dark and gloomy day in Aggieland, but all of the alumni entering the stadium are bright with excitement. I did hear a few jokes on the way up to the press box like, “It can’t be any worse than last year”.

Notes

- One of the biggest attractions today will be the improvement of Jerrod Johnson (QB)

- Sophomore receiver Jeff Fuller has had a tremendous spring and looks to be a playmaker for the Aggies

- One of the worst defenses in the country last season will look to thrive under Joe Kines’ simplified scheme this season

- Junior Von Miller will look to show-off his skills at the newly-created “Jack” position where he will specialize in blitzing

- Sophomore runningbacks Cyrus Gray and Bradley Stephens will be battling today for a starting spot in the fall

- The Aggies’ depth up front will be tested today with only 7 scholarship players on the offensive line playing today

- Ryan Tannehill (QB/WR) is warming up in athletic shorts and does not appear to be playing today

- Eyes will be on the performance of freshman quarterback Tommy Dorman who will introduce himself to the 12th Man today
