Texas maintains lead, no runs in eighth

Wily put the Longhorns down in order again, getting some key defensive plays behind him.

Horns lead 5-4 going to the ninth. Last chance for the Aggies.

Aggies fail to tie it in the eighth

After smith led off with a strike out, Greene hit a single that bounced off of a diving Tucker’s glove. He advanced on Raley’s ground out to the first (not a sac bunt… kind of sloppy) and then Anders hit in to the same ground out to end the inning.

Horns lead 5-4 going to the eighth inning.

Wily takes horns down in order

Belt, Moldenhauer and Rupp make quick work for Wily. Belt lined out to short, Moldenhauer grounded out 4-3 and Rupp grounded out 1-3 to end the inning.

Willy is looking good. I expect Este or Fleece to get a chance soon.

Horns lead 5-4 going to the eighth.

Ags score another run, trail by one

Colligan reached on a fielders choice, took second when Patterson was HBP and then scored on Shofner’s double to right field. Alleman and Gonzalez supplied two quick outs to end the inning.

Aggies are 2-for-11 with RISP and have stranded 10 batters. If they lose this will be a game of missed opportunities (even though you can’t throw out that disastarous first inning).

Horns lead 5-4 going to the bottom of the seventh.

Thebeau and Wily combine to stop Horns

Thebeau cruised starting the sixth, getting two quick fly outs.

After giving up a single and a walk to Nos. 9 and 1 in the Horns’ batting order Childress pulled Thebeau with two outs, sending junior fireballer Alex Wilson to the mound. Wily pitched 3.2 innings against the Horns on Friday night, throwing one really good inning in the ninth but struggling in the tenth by giving up three critical runs.

Willy came through, pitching a pretty long at bat against Tucker before getting a 4-3 ground out to end the inning.

Aggies trail 5-3 going to the seventh inning.

Greene double amounts to no runs

Brodie Greene hit a two-out double to left field in the sixth inning and later advanced to third base on a wild pitch. However the Aggies failed to cash in as Raley flew out to the second base man to end the inning.

Aggies are 1-for-8 with RISP and have stranded eight base runners.

Horns lead 5-3 going to the bottom of the sixth inning, A&M is running out of time.

A&M gets on the board, dies on base running error

The Aggies scored three runs in the fifth inning, hitting 1-for-2 with RISP. Greene led off with a single and Raley followed up with another single. Anders hit a third single to load the bases.

Colligan walked to score Greene and Patterson hit a two-RBI single to left field. Shofner struck out  then a critical base running error killed the inning.

Alleman bunted back to the pitcher and Dicharry tossed it back to Rupp as Colligan was half way home (safety squeeze I believe). Rupp chased Colligan back to third while Patterson was barreling toward the base. He got the tag on Colligan then dove to tag Patterson as he slid into third, recording a double play to end the inning.

The good news is A&M chipped at the Longhorns lead to 5-3.

Texas then did nothing in the bottom half of the fifth inning, going down in order.

Horns lead 5-3 after five innings.

Horns strand runner on third

What could have been a costly error happened when Rowe hit a grounder to short stop. Smith tried to field it on the fly and missed the ball. Rowe easily rounded first and took second before someone came up with the ball.

Torres grounded out to first base and Thebeau gave a flash of attitude to Yeast by stomping on the bag for the out. Belt flew out to center field to end the inning.

Horns lead 5-0 after four.

Aggies scoreless after 3.5

Things didn’t go much better for the Aggies in the fourth inning. Gonzalez had a one-out single into center field but Smith grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning. Good news is A&M did not strand a runner and were 0-for-0 with runners in scoring position (were no chances).

Horns lead 5-0 going to the bottom of the fourth.

Thebeau escapes third inning

Rupp and Loy led the third off with back-to-back singles but a heads up L5 by Shofner kept the runners in place and Maitland hit into a 4-6-3 double play (Anders was touching the bag) to end the inning. Estevan Uriegas and Shane Minks started warming up in the pen when Thebeau started to struggle but both are sitting down now.

Horns lead 5-0 through three innings.
